Colorful Entertainment, Unique Cuisine and Interesting Crafts Highlight The First Asian Festival, a New Addition to the 2004 PECO Energy Multicultural Series, at the Great Plaza at Penn's Landing


PHILADELPHIA, June 11, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- There's a new addition to the PECO Energy Multicultural Series family, the Asian Festival. This FREE event will take place on the Great Plaza at Penn's Landing, Columbus Boulevard and Chestnut Street on June 19, 2004 from Noon - 8:00 p.m. Independence Blue Cross is the presenting sponsor of the 2004 Summer Season.

The Asian Festival will celebrate Pan Asian culture with a day packed with authentic entertainment, activities and cuisine. Entertainment will include traditional dancing, Aikido Swordsman, and Pan Asian opera. For those seeking adventure, Extreme Science from the Franklin Institute will wow the audience. For those looking to calm, a Tai Chi demonstration will teach them how to center themselves.

There will be a number of demonstrations to interest all in attendance. Something will be offered for everyone in the family from kite-flying to dance lessons to culinary demonstrations. All activities celebrate the culture and diversity of the Asian community and span countries such as Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Vendors will feature a wide selection of authentic Asian arts and crafts as well as clothing and jewelry. Food vendors will offer a variety of dishes such as Vietnamese Hoagies, Bubble Tea, egg roll, Asian pastries, dim sum, and much more.

Admission is free for all PECO Energy Multicultural Series events. PECO Energy presents a series of free Multicultural festivals throughout the summer season at the Great Plaza at Penn's Landing.
