Emulex Achieves Number 1 Position in Worldwide HBA Market and Increases its 2003 Market Share

Emulex Port Shipments Exceed Nearest Competitor by 28%, Revenue Share is 49%

COSTA MESA, Calif., June 15, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX), the world leader in Fibre Channel host bus adapters and a provider of intelligent building blocks for the storage networking industry, today announced that leading independent market research firm Gartner Dataquest has ranked Emulex the number one Fibre Channel host bus adapter supplier worldwide in 2003. In addition, Emulex maintained the number one position in Fibre Channel HBA port shipments with 48 percent market share, an increase of five percentage points from the previous year.

In a new report entitled, Market Share: FC SAN Components, Worldwide, 2003, by Gartner Analyst James Opfer, the Company confirms that Emulex has once again emerged as the clear leader with 49 percent of the total HBA market in terms of revenue, surpassing its nearest competitor by more than 10 percentage points.

"Emulex strengthened its leadership position in the Fibre Channel HBA market by successfully delivering best-in-class products to our customers -- the world's leading server and storage OEMs," said Paul Folino, Emulex Chairman and CEO. "The recent introduction of our LP101 HBA, designed specifically for SMB SANs, opens up an entirely new market opportunity for Emulex revenue growth. As we continue to expand and diversify our product portfolio, Emulex is committed to delivering a complete line of HBAs for all sectors of the SAN market."

For calendar year 2003, Gartner Dataquest estimated that the worldwide revenue for the Fibre Channel SAN infrastructure market increased to $1.67 billion. Emulex's success during 2003 is attributed to a variety of factors, including OEM design wins and partner qualifications of its enterprise and midrange HBAs with the industry's leading server and storage suppliers, including EMC, HP, IBM, Quantum and StorageTek. In January 2004, the company launched its LP101 HBA, which is qualified by EMC for connectivity to the AX100 array, and specifically targeted for use in SANs for the rapidly growing small- to medium-sized business (SMB) market.
