Justified Conduct -- Woman in White House Forced to Choose Between President and his Enemies in New Book

TUCSON, Ariz., June 17, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Linda Vargo's new book, Justified Conduct (now available through AuthorHouse), is a political drama set in Washington, D.C. The CIA has meticulously groomed a man since birth to fill the position of commander in chief. Now, at nearly 40 years old, the future president has one last detail to address: Who will be the first lady?

The question is answered when Samantha Dubois, a teacher from the Midwest, is propelled to princess status by the American public. Her husband, a CIA operative, is abducted by terrorists and the agency is unwilling to help secure his release; he is expendable. Taking matters into her own hands, she arranges for his release while at the same time appealing to fellow Americans for help. They respond en mass, forcing the CIA to provide assistance. The pre-arranged destination for retrieving her husband becomes a killing ground, viewed by millions on national television. As the tragic scene unfolds, Samantha becomes the logical marital choice for the single, president-elect, Rob Lewis.

After being forcibly wed to Rob, Samantha finds herself caught in the duplicity of politicians who abuse power. One vicious man, Bill Johnson, head of the CIA, controls people and events to achieve his objective of making the entire Western Hemisphere into one country: the American United States. He alone decides what conduct is justified. Realizing that sometimes there are no good choices, Samantha, unwittingly, holds the most terrifying secret of all, the identity of her husband's killer and the threat he poses to the country.

A massacre of innocent people in Mexico and the vice president's assassination require Samantha to protect the future of her country and her family. She must identify the real enemies and navigate through an environment where people are commodities and death is second nature. She must decide who lives and who dies.

Vargo, who holds a bachelor's degree in business and a master's in educational leadership, teaches marketing in a local Tucson, Ariz., high school. She was raised on a farm in southeastern Ohio. Justified Conduct is her first novel.
