New Book Reveals the More Personal Side of the Nixons

DANVILLE, Ill., June 29, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- A different Richard Nixon emerges in a new book and recorded history might need some rewriting. Helen M. Montgomery reveals a more human and spiritual side of the former president Richard Nixon and his first lady Pat in a new book entitled Partners-in-Crisis: The Untold Story of Pat and Richard Nixon. Montgomery, who had a 35-year friendship with the Nixons, gives a firsthand account of events both personal and political that were never made public before. She reveals facts and perspectives that were not covered by the media and have remained unwritten in our history.

In Partners-in-Crisis, we meet the person behind the political persona. Richard Nixon emerges as a thoughtful and compassionate man. Montgomery tells us that when someone was sick or died, the former president would "take on the family's feelings." With the first lady Pat, the president shared a relationship that would endure the rough times. Pat Nixon supported her husband from the campaign trail, the presidency, and controversies. As president of the country, Nixon made difficult but wise decisions during terrorist bombings, energy crisis, and three wars. Montgomery also sheds new light on the Kennedy/Nixon elections and the Watergate scandal. She reveals a "sabotage" involving the CIA that toppled the president.

In sharing the more personal lives of the Nixons, Montgomery portrays a couple and a family that stood by each other through the most difficult moments. The political revelations in this new book are undoubtedly significant. Richard Nixon as politician and president made his mark in our country's history, but as father, husband, and ordinary human being, he is also as admirable.
