HERNDON, Va., July 1, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) has named L. William (Bill) Varner vice president, Intelligence Operations for its TASC business unit, effective June 26.

Varner reports to Sidney E. Fuchs, president of the TASC unit, which is part of the company's Information Technology sector.

The Intelligence Operations unit provides innovative technology solutions for intelligence collection and processing systems, information analysis and operational support to the national- and defense-intelligence communities worldwide.

"Bill is an exceptional leader, brings excellent management and customer expertise to this position. He will be an important addition to our senior leadership team," said Fuchs. "He is skilled at leading and growing programs, and his knowledge of key customer and technology operations will be a critical asset."

Most recently, Varner served as vice president and director of the business unit's Science and Technology division. Varner joined Northrop Grumman in 1976 and has held management positions of increasing responsibility. He received an award from a significant customer for his contributions in systems engineering for current successful programs.

Varner earned a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from George Washington University, a master's degree in electrical engineering from Purdue University, and a master's of business administration degree in finance from Virginia Polytechnic University.
