Inverted Flight: New Poetries from the Soul

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., July 7, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- What do you get when you look inward at life and war? Inverted Flight. This new literary compendium by poet Don Mercer takes readers into the drama of war and its lasting impact on the lives it has touched.

Mercer was a Night Rustic. A large part of the poetry he offers in this volume has been inspired by the events and emotions of the year he spent in Vietnam serving both his own country as well as the Cambodian nation. Many of the poems he has written include a prominent appreciation for his love of flying, for his comrades in arms, the honor of serving, and for his beloved comrades who were lost.

Inverted Flight, utterly provocative and richly layered, heralds a new poet to the literary stage of America; a new poet who is generous with his talent as he is with his love of country. "My poetry will hopefully impart to readers a better appreciation for the service and sacrifices of our men and women in uniform who served in a most unpopular war," says Mercer.
