WJJZ Smooth Jazz Summer Nights Returns For A Seventh Season At Penn's Landing

NBC-10 continues live broadcast of concerts every Friday Night


PHILADELPHIA, July 21, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Bringing smooth jazz to the Philadelphia Waterfront, WJJZ Smooth Jazz Summer Nights will return to the Great Plaza at Penn's Landing for its seventh year at Columbus Boulevard and Chestnut Street. The sounds of local and national Smooth Jazz artists will fill the air every Friday night in August, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.

NBC 10 will broadcast every concert from 7:00 to 7:30 p.m., hosted by NBC 10 personality Amy Freeze and Michael Tozzi from WJJZ 106.1, along with the rest of the WJJZ Smooth Jazz personalities. This series is free to the public due to the generous support of Independence Blue Cross.

The series will kick-off on Friday, August 6th with the soothing sounds of Steve Cole. A true world-class saxophonist, Cole's style of music is an array of contemporary jazz with a touch of richly textured urban, soul and R&B elements.

On Friday, August 13th Kim Waters will captivate crowds at the Great Plaza with his sultry saxophone playing. Waters' mixture of styles blends a unique balance of R&B and jazz which makes audiences want to get up and dance. This year marks the 15th anniversary of Waters' career and what better way to celebrate than with a performance at Penn's Landing.

Friday, August 20th will feature Doc Powell performing his contemporary guitar melodies. A guitarist and composer, Powell fuses the smooth sounds of jazz with sultry R&B influences which are guaranteed to make any audience a true fan.

The series will close out on Friday, August 27th with an enticing instrumental performance by Brian Culbertson. Known for his high-energy stage presence and versatility in contemporary jazz, Culbertson will be an outstanding finale to WJJZ Smooth Summer Nights series.
