Emulex and StorageTek Jointly Announce Certification of Emulex Fibre Channel HBAs with StorageTek Tape and Disk Product Families

Leading HBA Supplier's LP10000 and LP10000DC Proves Interoperable with StorageTek Disk and Tape Offerings

COSTA MESA, Calif., and LOUISVILLE, Colo., July 22, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX), a market leader in Fibre Channel host bus adapters (HBAs) and a leading supplier of intelligent building blocks for next generation storage networking systems, and StorageTek(r) (Storage Technology Corporation) (NYSE:STK) today jointly announced certification of Emulex's LP10000 and dual channel LP10000DC PCI-X Fibre Channel HBAs for use with StorageTek tape libraries, drives and disk subsystems. This qualification ensures seamless integration between the two companies' products for customers using either Windows or Solaris operating environments.

"Emulex's HBAs are a key enabling technology within the SAN environment," said Pierre Cousin, StorageTek corporate vice president, research, engineering and development. "Our long relationship working with Emulex has brought our customers enhanced connectivity and increased flexibility within their storage systems. In addition, Emulex's firmware architecture allows for simple upgrades while protecting the initial investment. We are pleased to have Emulex's LP10000 and LP10000DC Fibre Channel HBAs as members of our qualified solutions."

"As more companies become 24/7 operations, downtime becomes a costly liability," said Mike Smith, executive vice president of worldwide marketing at Emulex. "The combined StorageTek and Emulex solution provides seamless interoperability and maximum uptime for enterprises to significantly reduce, if not eliminate, lag time in the storage system."

In order to provide compliance between the two companies products, Emulex, LSI Storage Systems and StorageTek engineers jointly tested and cross-certified StorageTek's full range of B-Series(tm) and D-Series(tm) disk subsystems, T-Series(tm) and the L180 and L700 StorageTek libraries. This is in addition to compliance with IBM Linear Tape Open (LTO) generations 1 and 2 and the Hewlett-Packard LTO generation 2 tape drives. This testing verifies seamless storage area network (SAN) interoperability and performance for customers and optimizes resources.

Emulex's LP10000 and LP10000DC, which have been qualified by StorageTek in Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003 and Solaris environments, are ideal for storage networks built on StorageTek solutions, providing support for 1Gb/s and 2Gb/s Fibre Channel data rates and deliver high performance. The Emulex family of HBAs offers firmware-based architecture and operating system driver compatibility across Emulex's entire HBA product line, which provides customers with a simplified upgrade path, reduced management complexities, and also helps lower total cost of ownership. Emulex HBAs are fully compatible with drivers that support the company's new centralized HBA management suite, HBAnyware, which incorporates driver-based technology to enable complete management of Emulex HBAs and the ability to upgrade firmware anywhere in a SAN from a single console.
