Waves of Destiny -- New Book Reveals True Story of Political Upheaval and Love in the Middle East

AMARILLO, Texas, July 22, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- In contrast to the great anonymous face of terror it is often portrayed to be, the Middle East consists of individuals who live, love and have amazing stories to tell. In Waves of Destiny (now available through AuthorHouse), Brig. Gen. Houshang Filsouf (Imperial Iranian Air Force, retired) shares his personal account of family hardships, true love and the tumultuous revolution that took place in his country, Iran.

Filsouf begins with the intriguing childhood of his mother, Goli. A beautiful peasant girl in the mountain village of Ali Abad, Iran, Goli was forced to marry an older man she did not love. To escape this fate, she made a courageous journey down the mountain and found her destiny in the bustling city of Tehran.

This stirring account of his mother's early years flows into the story of Filsouf's life. He and his siblings endured the hardships of poverty but also enjoyed the devotion of their mother who, he writes, "sacrificed her youth and beauty for her children's survival." He delves into the faith held by their family and the true miracles he experienced as a result of his spirituality. He also parallels his formative years with important national and global events that helped shape his native land.

Waves of Destiny follows Filsouf's path from childhood to his place among the ranks of the Imperial Iranian Air Force (IIAF) and, later, as a student of the Royal Air Force (RAF) in the United Kingdom. He describes his time exploring the people and places of England and shares the romance that blossomed when he met his future wife, Monica. Throughout the book, Filsouf infuses the turbulent times his country endures and the rebellion that alters the entire country's culture and lifestyle.

A riveting story rich in culture, faith and human kindness, Waves of Destiny inspires readers from all walks of life to pursue love and spirituality instead of wealth and power as a means to happiness.

Filsouf was born in 1931 in Tehran. He graduated from the IIAF Academy in 1951 and was later chosen for graduate studies with the RAF. He became a chief purchasing officer in Europe and was assigned to a diplomatic mission in London. In 1976, he became a brigadier general and director of training for the IIAF. He is now retired and lives in Texas. Waves of Destiny is his first book.
