PHILADELPHIA, July 22, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Get ready for some fresh new sounds at Penn's Landing. This year, the popular Thursday night concert series has not only featured the swinging sounds of big band, the new music of Y-100 artists, and now during the month of August, hotter than hot Latin music with the Caliente Concert series. Every Thursday night in August from 7:00-9:00 p.m. get ready to salsa and sizzle with the FREE Caliente Concert series taking place at the Great Plaza at Penn's Landing, located at Columbus Blvd. and Chestnut Street.
The Caliente Concert series features some of the hottest regional and local acts in the Latin music scene, and free Latin dance lessons with Groupo Fuego beginning at 6:00 PM each night.
The Caliente Concert series starts on August 5th with the talented Edgar Joel. Originally from Philadelphia with roots in Puerto Rico, Edgar Joel has been the recipient of many prestigious awards within the Latin music industry, and is considered to be one of the most influential artists of the new wave of Latin music.
August 12th features Marino de Jesus y su Commando 7 and headliner Foto Rodriguez Charanga La Unica, who has just released Sabroso, a production celebrating the group's 22nd anniversary. In 1980, Rodriguez founded La Unica (Philadelphia's first charanga) with Pupi Legarreta.
Carmelito y la Banda Tipica takes the stage on August 19th along with Orquesta del Barrio. Led by brothers Celestino and Carlos Sanchez, Orquesta del Barrio is the product of Philadelphia's Puerto Rican community. Latin Beat Magazine saluted Orquesta del Barrio for "keeping salsa music alive and well in Philadelphia."
The Caliente Concert series concludes on August 26th with the Los Brothers Band, a merengue group that returns to Penn's Landing after a sizzling performance at last year's Hispanic Fiesta. The series will also features performances by Latin Dance groups and DJ Jose Rodriguez- one of Philadelphia's top Latin DJ's for several years. The Caliente Series is sponsored by Telemundo WWSI TV 62 and Al Dia Newspaper.
