New Book Says to Dissent From Life's Material Obsession!

PLYMOUTH, Mich., July 26, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- All your life you are conditioned to believe that your worth as a person is directly proportional to your material success. All your life you work hard for this purpose. All your life you believe it is the ultimate meaning of life. But one day, you wake up and realize you still feel empty despite your huge bank account, your fame, your power. There has got to be more to life than these. In Michael Kasenow's compelling new book, The Lost Generation, come face to face with society's misguided search for purpose and dignity in a world that sells transient desires, illusions, and addictions. The author blends traditional poetic styles with contemporary songs to paint modern man's obsession with materialism.

The poems are written in the tradition of Edgar Lee Masters and Edwin Arlington Robinson. Voices range from the contemporary to Jesus, Pontius Pilate, Lazarus, Mary Magdalene, Janus, Icarus, and other voices from history and mythology. Their stories are weaved with those of us raised and competing in today's modern world. Like the poems of Masters and Robinson, many of the characterizations may not be popular but they are human, complete with the weaknesses and tragedies that are universal in nature and common to any neighborhood.

"Like any good character in any good story, the personalities painted in this volume offer reflections of journeys that readers may have taken, are traveling or have witnessed," says Kasenow. Provocative as it is relevant, The Lost Generation captures the struggle for purpose and spirit in a journey through abuse, addiction, and the transient habit of affluence. Be enlightened by this powerful work!
