Red Hat to List Emulex HBAs and Linux Drivers as 'Certified for Red Hat Enterprise Linux'

Emulex and Red Hat Announce Collaboration and Support for Linux

COSTA MESA, Calif., July 26, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX), the world leader in Fibre Channel host bus adapters and a provider of intelligent building blocks for the storage networking industry, and Red Hat (Nasdaq:RHAT), the world's leading provider of open source to the enterprise, today announced their joint plans to provide best-in-class open source drivers and end-user support to the enterprise storage community.

Red Hat support for Emulex HBAs provides the end-user community with the benefit of industry leading storage connectivity solutions fully certified by the Red Hat Engineering Labs for both single node and cluster configurations. Emulex HBAs and Linux drivers will be listed by Red Hat as "Certified for Enterprise Linux." Furthermore, Red Hat will integrate the Emulex Open Source Linux drivers in the next quarterly update of Red Hat Enterprise Linux later this summer, enabling customers to install a new system directly on a Fibre Channel attached storage device.

"Consistent with Red Hat's Open Source Architecture strategy to work with partners to certify a broad array of enterprise solutions on Linux, Red Hat and Emulex have been working closely to implement reliable, integrated storage solutions. The collaborative work Emulex has done in concert with the open source community is an example of how companies can successfully share valuable expertise and resources with the open source community to enhance the functionality of products in Enterprise Linux environments," said Deb Woods, vice president of Product Management at Red Hat. "We are extremely pleased with the quality of service this partnership brings to customers."

"Close cooperation between the world's leading enterprise Linux distribution, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, and the number one provider of host bus adapters for the growing Fibre Channel storage market marks a very significant step towards providing the enterprise user with best-in-class open source storage networking solutions," said Mike Smith, executive vice president of worldwide marketing at Emulex Corp.

The certified Emulex HBA drivers, which operate seamlessly with its latest generation LP10000 and LP1050 PCI-X HBAs, provide industry-leading Fibre Channel connectivity technology to accommodate the demands of the enterprise-class server market. When coupled with Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Emulex HBAs maximize support for sizable memory configurations for large-scale computing environments. First line technical support for certified drivers within Red Hat Enterprise Linux environments is provided by Red Hat.
