Emulex Announces Availability of its PCI Express Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapters for use with New Intel Xeon Processor-based Server Platforms

Emulex Delivers Robust Implementation of PCI Express and Intel Extended Memory 64 Technology Solutions

COSTA MESA, Calif., Aug. 2, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX), the market leader in Fibre Channel host bus adapters (HBAs) and a leading supplier of intelligent building blocks for next generation storage networking systems, today announced OEM availability of its PCI Express Fibre Channel HBAs. The new Emulex LP10000ExDC and LP1050Ex HBAs are designed to provide a scalable and flexible SAN connectivity solution for new server platforms -- based on the Intel(r) Xeon(tm) Processor, more powerful chipsets, PCI Express and Intel(r) Extended Memory 64 Technology (Intel(r) EM64T).

The Emulex LP10000ExDC and midrange LP1050Ex are high performance PCI Express HBAs with broad operating system support and the latest 64-bit extension driver technology. The entire family of LightPulse HBAs offers a firmware-based architecture designed to ensure driver compatibility across its entire product line. The Emulex LP10000 family of HBAs is software and driver compatible with previous generation Emulex HBAs, which enables OEMs and end users to migrate seamlessly to PCI Express, and also provides a robust feature set to fully complement this new and flexible, high performance system architecture.

"Emulex worked closely with Intel to develop the most robust, feature-rich implementation of PCI Express solutions for the enterprise," said Mike Smith, executive vice president of worldwide marketing, Emulex Corp. "Emulex PCI Express connectivity solutions offer the scalable and reliable feature set required for high performance, serial applications and networked storage solutions."

"Intel worked with leading companies, such as Emulex, to accelerate the delivery of PCI Express, the most important I/O innovation for enterprise platforms in a decade," said Tom Macdonald, vice president and general manager of Intel's Advanced Chipsets Division. "Intel Xeon processor-based servers taking advantage of PCI Express and Intel EM64T will provide optimal functionality and flexibility for storage network environments."

The 64-bit Windows Server 2003, which utilizes the Microsoft Storport driver, is designed to take advantage of Emulex's 64-bit extensions driver technology that is integrated into the Emulex Storport miniport drivers. Emulex's previously installed based of HBAs may take advantage of the 64-bit extensions -- which provides customers with ongoing investment protection.

"Microsoft has worked closely with storage industry leaders like Emulex to ensure that Windows customers have access to high quality drivers and operating system compatibility for their Windows Server 2003-based datacenters," said Claude Lorenson, product manager for Microsoft Storage. "For 64-bit environments, the 64-bit Windows Server 2003 will be the first Windows operating systems to feature Storport as the in-box driver -- bringing reliability and management gains to SAN customers."
