HERNDON, Va., Aug. 4, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) has been awarded a contract by all of the public safety agencies in Santa Clara County, Calif., to provide an integrated voice-data wireless system that will allow the agencies to communicate effectively while assisting one another during major emergencies.
All Santa Clara County municipalities and their respective fire, emergency medical services, and law-enforcement agencies participate in a joint agreement, the Silicon Valley Regional Interoperability Project (SVRIP). The goal of the SVRIP is to link all 32 of the municipal and county government public-safety agencies through an integrated voice-data wireless system solution engineered by Northrop Grumman.
"We are working in partnership with members of the SVRIP to leverage current capabilities of existing legacy systems, sharing information, and saving valuable response time for local fire, police and emergency medical personnel," said Hugh Taylor, president of Northrop Grumman's commercial, state and local solutions business unit. "Our experience with data interoperability and integration allows us to offer the SVRIP the best possible solution."

The SVRIP has two phases. As part of the first phase, valued at $1.3 million over 10 months to Northrop Grumman's Information Technology (IT) sector, the company will provide an assessment, design recommendations, and architecture for the radio interoperability and data integration system. The solution designed takes advantage of the legacy systems and communications infrastructure already in place. This approach reduces overall cost.
The second phase of the contract includes final engineering, integration, systems verification and project implementation.
Work on the contract will be performed at client locations in Campbell, Calif.
