Los Angeles World Airports Soundproofing Program Reaches Milestone

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 5, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Los Angeles World Airports' (LAWA's) Residential Soundproofing Program reached a milestone this summer. Fiscal year 2003-2004 residential soundproofing projects near Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Van Nuys Airport (VNY) totaled a record 918 units.

The previous record for a fiscal year was 705 units in fiscal year 2002-2003. To date, a total of 3,967 housing units have been soundproofed from nearly 9,000 eligible residents in the Los Angeles communities of Westchester, Playa del Rey, South Los Angeles and Van Nuys.

"We exceeded our goal for residential soundproofing in the most recent fiscal year," said Kim Day, LAWA's interim executive director. "As the soundproofing program nears the end of the notification phase, the long-range acceptance of the program has been very gratifying," she added.

Residences with a recorded community Noise Equivalency Level (CNEL) of 65 decibels or higher are retrofitted with dual-paned windows, solid-core doors, attic insulation, and other necessary soundproofing modifications.

The program is administered by LAWA's Residential Soundproofing Bureau. The LAX community office at 8939 South Sepulveda Boulevard in Westchester is open from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Soundproofed model homes in Playa del Rey and South Los Angeles are open to visitors by appointment. Residents may call (310) 646-7444 for more information.

The Van Nuys community office and showroom at 16525 Sherman Way, Suite C-1 is open from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Residents may call (818) 909-3573 for more information.
