Nomadix Supplies Universal Subscriber Gateway for Hermosa Beach HotZone

Program Provides Free Citywide Wireless Broadband Access to Residents and Visitors

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif., Aug. 17, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Nomadix, Inc. (www.nomadix.com), the leading supplier of Public-access solutions, today announced that its Universal Subscriber Gateway II (tm) has been installed in a citywide wireless network or "HotZone" in Hermosa Beach, California. Phase one of the citywide Hermosa Beach HotZone will cover approximately 35 percent of the City, providing free wireless Internet service to the downtown, City Hall and adjacent neighborhoods. The city's 21,000 residents will now have free Internet access available in their homes, restaurants, municipal areas, and even on the beach.

Capable of supporting thousands of simultaneous users, the USG II is a high-performance platform designed for deployment in large venues. The Wi-Fi network uses the Gateway to provide end user plug and play, end user provisioning, service presence and traffic shaping in the HotZone.

"The Hermosa Beach Citywide HotZone represents a dream come true for free municipal wireless connectivity for all the city residents and workers," said Michael Keegan, city councilman, Hermosa Beach. "Working with Nomadix has enabled us to make ubiquitous Internet access a reality."

City residents, merchants and visitors can access the Internet on their laptops fitted with a Wi-Fi/PC card or on their desktop via a PCI adapter with antenna that can pick up the signal. Broadband access is delivered to the end users in a variety of ways, ranging from speeds of up to 6Mbs per second - five times the speed of DSL.

"Working with our neighboring cities to provide its residents with one of the Nation's first citywide HotZones further demonstrates Nomadix' commitment to remaining on the cutting-edge of the Public-access industry," said Kurt Bauer, president and CEO, Nomadix.
