LOS ANGELES, Aug. 20, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Double-digit passenger traffic growth continued in July at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).
Total passenger volume increased 11 percent to 5,988,269 passengers for the month, airport officials reported. International passengers increased 13 percent in July, compared with the same month last year. Domestic traffic was up 10.3 percent.
For the first seven months of 2004, passenger traffic was up 11.5 percent to 35,350,715, compared with 31,701,845 for the same period in 2003.
"The robust passenger traffic recovery continues at LAX," said Kim Day, Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) interim executive director. "We are on track to finish the year above the 60-million passenger level for the first time since 2001. This is good news for the airport, the City and the Southern California economy."
At Ontario International Airport (ONT), LAWA's other airport with scheduled passenger service, traffic increased 4.2 percent in July compared with July last year. Year to date, ONT traffic was up 5.9 percent to 4,041,329 passengers.
Air cargo tonnage at LAX for the first seven months of 2004 totaled 1.2 million, up 3.8 percent from the previous year. At ONT, air cargo tonnage for 2004 totaled 352,117 through July, an increase of 10.5 percent over the same period last year.
