I'm Glad I Lived -- Author's Autobiography Celebrates Life of Humor and Happiness

LAKELAND, Fla. Sept. 1, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Ernest E. Holbrook does not look back on life with many regrets. It has been filled with the same waves of happiness, sadness and fear as others, but he cherishes each moment. I'm Glad I Lived (now available through AuthorHouse), is his autobiography, chronicling a life well-lived.

I'm Glad I Lived is told with an easy style chockfull of facts and humor. The book begins with the author's pursuit of his future wife, detailing the happy moments courting "the perfect woman" to share his life.

Then Holbrook backtracks to tell some stories of his mischievous childhood. He taught school at age 6, drove a car at 8 and was involved in "a nerve wracking shootout" when he was 10. The teenage years were both exciting and frustrating for young Holbrook. He tells tales of playing in a rollicking country western band at 17 and learning the first lessons of fear while squeezing the trigger of a P-39 fighter plane on an Air Force base, nearly causing a catastrophe.

The title of the book is borrowed from a favorite saying of his grandfather's, but that is not the only thing he influenced. At 18, Holbrook decided to leave his music playing days behind and enter the ministry like his grandfather. After serving as an evangelist for more than four years, he pastored four churches over a period of 44 years. He also conducted a weekly radio broadcast for nearly 50 years.

Totally factual and loaded with Holbrook's unique brand of jovial humor, I'm Glad I Lived is a refreshing and inspirational story for people of all ages.

Holbrook grew up during the Depression. Music and singing came natural to him, but the church had a stronger pull on his soul than the stage. Semi retired, he still serves as a board member of the Radio Training Network, which operates a plethora of Christian radio stations and translators. Over the years, he has written a number of sermons and radio scripts for his show, but I'm Glad I Lived is his first book.
