Viva Mexico! Independencia De Mexico! 10th Anniversary Celebration of the Mexican Independence Day Festival

Part of the PECO Multicultural Series at Penn's Landing

PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 2, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- The Great Plaza at Penn's Landing, Columbus Boulevard and Chestnut Street, will be transformed into a great fiesta on Sunday, September 12, 2004, from noon to 8:00 p.m, as the Mexican Cultural Center commemorates the annual Mexican Independence Day Festival in Philadelphia. Celebrate Mexican culture with food, music, dancing and crafts. PECO Energy sponsors the Multicultural Series, and Independence Blue Cross is the presenting sponsor of the entire 2004 summer season at Penn's Landing.

According to the Mexican Cultural Center, this date is significant for all Mexicans because it represents the birth of a free country, proud of its own ancestry and its own identity. But it also has become a traditional reunion of all Latino communities: Mexicans, Puerto Ricans, Colombians, Venezuelans, Cubans, etc., all together celebrating the richness of their culture. The ingredients in this "fiesta" recipe are Latin music with mariachi bands, Mexican regional dances, arts and crafts, exciting prizes-all of these spiced up with the authentic flavor of our Mexican cuisine.

For Latinos, "fiesta" means also "family," so all relatives are invited -- parents, children, grandparents, cousins, uncles, and friends. Thousands of people from across the Delaware Valley have already witnessed the success of the event. This Festival, presented by PECO Energy and the Mexican Cultural Center, invites everyone to be a part of our Festival and show your support to the Latino Community in the Delaware Valley. Y QUE VIVA MEXICO!

The stage will be alive throughout the event with dancers, musicians, bands, speakers and other performers. Grupo Cana Real from Mexico City, Mexico is a 16-piece band featuring rhythms and music from various Latino cultures. Mariachi Flores, a festival favorite featuring five brothers, will perform mariachi favorites. Classical Mexican guitarist and balladeer Jose Luis De La Cruz will perform along with a variety of dance troupes. Univision celebrity, Rosanna Franco, will act as the mistress of ceremonies throughout the day.

Along with a day loaded with great entertainment, there will also be delicious Mexican food and specialty crafts. Food vendors participating in this year's event include: Los Tacos, Tacos Citlali, La Veracruzana, Mix Masters Cafe, Adobe Cafe, Jose's Restaurant, Que Chula Puebla, Las Chivas, Sol Azteca, Cibucan, Rio Bravo, and Corona. Visitors can also explore the various tents featuring traditional Mexican crafts, clothing and jewelry.

Admission is free for all PECO Energy Multicultural Series events. PECO Energy presents a series of free Multicultural festivals throughout the summer season at the Great Plaza at Penn's Landing.
