LAX to Hold September 11 Remembrance Event for Public

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 8, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) will commemorate the third anniversary of the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001, with a "Circle of Unity" ceremony on Thursday, Sept. 9, 2004, at the airport's landmark Theme Building in the Central Terminal Area.

LAX was tragically linked to the terrorist attacks on our nation, as three of the four hijacked flights were bound for LAX.

At precisely noon Thursday, Sept. 9, airport employees, travelers and community representatives will form a human "Circle of Unity" around the permanent art piece "Recovering Equilibrium," located in the lobby area of the airport's landmark Theme Building. A moment of silence will be followed by the singing of "God Bless America" and the distribution of small U.S. flags. This event will recreate the original event held Sept. 14, 2001, the first full day of flight activity following the closure of the airport on Sept. 11, 2001.

The public is invited to the event and parking will be validated for up to two hours in all of the airport's Central Terminal Area parking structures. Participants are asked to arrive at the Theme Building by 11:50 a.m.
