StockPickReport Commentary:

Here's a question for you. What time in American history does the next paragraph describe?

"The last few years we've seen energy prices skyrocket. Gasoline prices continue to rise. The incumbent United States President, a republican, presides over a stock market which tumbled 50% from its highs to its lows over a two year period. The incumbent republican President's opponent is one of the most liberal men in mainstream United States politics. Finally, Mid-east unrest threatens to drag the entire world into diplomatic chaos."

Those facts describe the United States circa 1972 - 1976. But, you were correct if you said, "2000 - 2004," too. Sort of interesting, huh?

1973 saw the start of an energy crisis across the United States and gas prices skyrocketed. The incumbent republican President, Gerald Ford presided over an economy where the S&P tumble 50%. Mid-East unrest and anti-American sentiment around the globe was often described as a "powder keg." And, who can forget the stunning entrance of Jimmy Carter into the race for President? Jimmy Carter was a clearly-liberal ("proudly," sure Mr. Carter would surely add) opponent who made his intentions to bring radical change to the social landscape known from the start of his campaign.

Yet, the media wants you to believe the events which unfold around the world are unique, today. But, sorry. The world events of the last four years are nothing new.

Nope, nothing new. Nothing.
