Scania largest in Finland -- sells 47 new buses to Connex

SODERTALJE, Sweden, Sept. 10, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Scania's Finnish subsidiary Scan-Auto has sold 47 city and intercity buses to Connex. With this sale, Scania maintains its immensely strong position on the Finnish bus market.

"We are the market leaders and have for the past three years held just over 50 percent of the bus market," says Robert Eklund, head of bus operations at Scan-Auto.

The main factor behind these successes is the company's comprehensive product range, with city buses from 12 to 15 metres in length.

"What clinched the deal with Connex was our chassis, which is the most reliable for buses in city operations," explains Robert Eklund.

Connex currently has a fleet of about 240 city buses in the region of Finland's capital.

The 47 buses ordered by Connex, all of them city buses from 13 to 15 metres in length, will be delivered during the current year. The bodies will be built by domestic bodybuilder Lahti and by Ikarus of Hungary.

Scania is one of the world's leading manufacturers of trucks and buses for heavy transport applications, and of industrial and marine engines. With 29,1 00 employees and production facilities in Europe and Latin America, Scania is one of the most profitable companies in its sector. In 2003, turnover totalled SEK 50,500 million and the result after financial items was SEK 4,600 million. Scania products are marketed in about 100 countries worldwide and some 95 percent of Scania's vehicles are sold outside Sweden.
