Emulex SAN Storage Switches Selected By NEC

COSTA MESA, Calif., Sept. 14, 2004 -- Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX), the world leader in Fibre Channel host bus adapters and embedded storage switches, and a provider of intelligent building blocks for the storage networking industry, today announced that NEC Corporation has selected Emulex's new SAN Storage Switches for the deployment of server clustering applications. Emulex's 12-port, 2 Gb/s SAN Storage Switch Model 355 is available now from NEC and shipping.

Emulex's new SAN Storage Switch Models 355 and 375 are the first and only Fibre Channel SAN storage switches specifically designed for entry-level SAN applications. Based on the company's award winning and field-proven InSpeed(tm) technology, Emulex SAN Storage Switches are designed to deliver a simple and affordable storage solution for companies that want the advantages SANs provide over direct attached storage, but wish to avoid the complexities that come with enterprise fabric-based services.

"Through the use of Emulex's SAN Storage Switch Model 355, NEC customers can easily and cost effectively deploy clustering solutions to bring high availability to a variety of server applications," said Koji Iguchi, Chief Manager of NEC's Client and Server Division. "The inherent simplicity and stability of the Model 355 makes it particularly well suited for entry-level SAN applications where cost and ease of management are strong considerations."

"NEC's implementation of our SAN Storage Switches underscores Emulex's commitment to providing products that meet both the ease-of-use requirements and price points that entry and departmental level SAN users demand," said Mike Smith, Executive Vice President of Worldwide Marketing, Emulex Corp. "We are delighted that NEC chose our new switching products for inclusion in their solution offerings."

The Emulex SAN Storage Switch Model 355 is a 1U, half-rack form factor 12-port non-blocking 2 Gb/s Fibre Channel switch. The Emulex SAN Storage Switch Model 375 is a 1U, full-rack form factor 20-port non-blocking switch that, in addition to more ports, adds redundant fans and two hot-swappable, universal power supplies for high availability. Both the 355 and 375 offer a number of advanced features and unique capabilities included standard in the switch:

-- Intuitive integrated management web server and a simple 3-step
installation process deliver industry leading configuration and
    ease of use
-- Smart settings are selectable predefined switch configurations
that optimize switch performance and stability for a variety of
    application environments
-- Automatic Trunking fully multiplies inter-switch link throughput
    and bandwidth with failover protection
-- One-Step Zoning for simple storage pool partitioning
-- Stealth Intelligent Change Manager eliminates state and
configuration change notification disruptions, leading to an
    exceptionally stable SAN environment.

Emulex SAN Storage Switches are ideal for storage pooling and consolidation, high-performance shared tape library backup and recovery, server clustering, and streaming rich media applications.
