Airvana Appoints Mark Rau Vice President of Engineering

1xEV-DO Infrastructure Provider Selects Former Nortel Networks Vice President to Support Global Growth


CHELMSFORD, Mass., Sept. 29, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Airvana, Inc. (www.airvananet.com), a provider of All-IP, third-generation (3G) CDMA2000 1xEV-DO infrastructure, today announced the appointment of Mark Rau as vice president of engineering. Rau, a 17-year veteran of Nortel Networks that oversaw the initial CDMA rollouts for Sprint and Airtouch, will leverage his extensive background in managing carrier-grade telecommunications products to support Airvana's global growth. Additionally, he brings to Airvana over 20 years of engineering, operations and executive leadership in both startup and large corporate companies.

Rau joins Airvana from Carrius Technologies, where he was most recently vice president of engineering responsible for the development of Intelligent IP gateway and IP-based programmable network service platform products. Prior positions include senior vice president of engineering and operations at SOMA Networks. Rau spent 17 years with Nortel Networks in various engineering management positions including vice president/general manager of the Broadband Wireless division at Nortel Networks.

Rau holds a bachelor of science in Mathematics from South Dakota State University and a master of science in Management and Administrative Science with an Operations Research concentration from the University of Texas at Dallas.
