Leukhardt, 46, who most recently served as chief financial officer and vice president of business management for the company's Newport News sector in Va., will be responsible for directing the Baltimore-based Electronic Systems sector's business strategy and processes in support of business growth and profitability goals and will have executive responsibility for sector business management functions such as accounting, financial reporting and planning, analysis, rates and budgets, and program cost control.

In her new post, she reports to Robert P. Iorizzo, corporate vice president and president of the Electronic Systems sector, and on a matrixed basis to Charles H. Noski, corporate vice president and chief financial officer.

Leukhardt succeeds Wylie B. Smith, who has announced his intention to retire at year's end, following a 36-year career with Northrop Grumman.

To help ensure a smooth transition of the chief financial officer duties at Newport News, she will also continue in her position there on an interim basis until a successor is appointed.

"We are very pleased to have Linda return to Baltimore to lead the sector's financial and business management organization," said Iorizzo. "Her extensive financial background and expertise, coupled with her intimate understanding of the business of Electronic Systems, will be invaluable to the corporation going forward."

Iorizzo added, "On behalf of the entire corporation, I am extremely grateful for Wylie's numerous accomplishments and contributions to the success of the corporation and wish him and his wife, Margie, the very best in retirement."

Leukhardt joined the company in 1980 and has held a number of financial and business management positions at company locations in Baltimore, Sunnyvale, Calif., Pittsburgh, and Newport News. In 1998, she was appointed business manager for a number of key avionics systems programs in Baltimore. In 2000, Leukhardt was named program director of SAP, with responsibility implementation of an Electronic Systems sector-wide SAP enterprise resource planning system.

She was promoted to vice president of finance and controller for Electronic Systems in 2001 and assumed her most recent post at the Newport News sector in Va., in 2002.

Leukhardt earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from West Virginia University.
