A Legend is Born -- New Prequel Adds Depth to Arthurian Mythology

MIAMI, Oct. 7, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Before the legend of King Arthur was spawned, an epic struggle took place that set the stage for his coming. The Return of the Eagle (now available through AuthorHouse), the first installment in The Matter of Britain series by Isabella Duncan, is the prequel to the legend that brought about the greatest king in British history.

By the fifth century, Rome has fallen and chaos rules the land once called Albion and soon to be Britannia. Ambrosius Aurelianus, direct descendent of the Roman emperor and heir to the British throne, is forever changed by a swift act of treason. His father, King Constantine, is murdered by Vortigern of Powys, who declares himself ruler. Ambrosius becomes a fugitive when he flees with his 9-year-old brother, Uther, two loyal friends and a handful of soldiers. On his quest to realize the dream of liberating his kingdom, he draws men from all walks of life under his banner to fight. Along the way he encounters love, disappointment and loss.

While Ambrosius follows his heart, the woman he loves, and believes lost to another man, bears him a special child who one day will become the great Merlin and prophesize the birth of Arthur. As he and his men train on the European continent, a band of kings, lead by Amlawdd of Mon, unite in Britain against Vortigern. Amlawdd sends word to Ambrosius and urges him to return. Ambrosius refuses, which forces an ultimatum that challenges him to face his fears.

Steeped in Arthurian lore, The Return of the Eagle is a richly detailed glimpse into the mythology of Britain's most famous monarch.

Duncan is the pen name for two Miami-based writers who are passionate about the Dark Ages. They have both traveled extensively throughout Britain and are well-read in Arthurian legend. Between the two of them, they have two daughters, seven nephews, six nieces, three cats and one dog.
