ATLANTA, Oct. 14, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- EMS Wireless, a division of EMS Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:ELMG) announced today the successful deployment of EMS's line of CDMA 450MHz repeaters to Romania's Zapp. Zapp is the only telephony operator in Romania that provides full voice and data communication services, based on the next-generation network (CDMA2000 1x in the 450 MHz band). Zapp started operations in December 2001.
The deployment to Romania represents the first use of the new CDMA 450MHz band by a commercial operator. Zapp installed EMS Wireless repeaters inside the Bucharest Marriott hotel basement to give greatly needed coverage expansion.
Zapp Chief Technical Officer Victor Stan considers EMS's repeaters "a cost-effective coverage extension solution for filling the inherent coverage gaps in difficult locations such as underground facilities, shopping malls and tunnels."
