Globix and EPA Team Up to Stream EstuaryLIVE 2004

Web Broadcast of 7 Field Trips Seen by Viewers World-Wide

NEW YORK, Oct. 19, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Globix Corporation (OTCBB:GBXX), The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Estuarine Reserves Division announced today the successful completion of web broadcasts for the EstuaryLIVE field trips held September 23rd and 24th. Globix was chosen by the EPA to coordinate the feed, to produce and encode the event and to deliver the content via its Global network to schools worldwide.

EstuaryLIVE is a free, interactive field trip for students of all ages to celebrate National Estuaries Day and highlight the importance of estuaries and the need to protect them. Students could view the webcast at home or in the classroom and interact with the tour guides by emailing questions during the trip. Many questions were answered live during the broadcast.

Seven estuaries that are members of NOAA's National Estuarine Research Reserves (NERR) and EPA's National Estuary Programs (NEP) served as live sites for the two-day event. The broadcast enabled students to see estuaries in North Carolina, Alabama, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Oregon and Washington.

Over the two days, Globix received more than 7,000 requests for individual streams that reached teachers, students and environmentalists across the world. Because of the interactive abilities, over 740 interactive questions were fielded by NERR or NEP staff.

"Globix was chosen because of our ability to acquire signals anywhere in the world and our experience in producing, encoding and streaming large events," according to Ed Warner, General Manager of Media Services. "We gave the EPA the ability to take the students to the field, no matter where it was."

Through its in-house encoding facility, Globix received the live satellite feeds from the field, encoded the stream and broadcast the event for both narrowband and broadband users.

"Globix provided us with more detail about the broadcast than we've had in the past -- including the number of requests, the level of streaming activities through the two days and the geographic areas where the viewers were located -- information that will help us enhance future broadcasts," stated Nancy Laurson from the EPA.

The EstuaryLIVE event and other useful information/materials for teachers and students are available at the estuaries.gov website.
