After The Bell Market Commentary
On Tuesday, Motorola Inc. (NYSE: MOT) said that third-quarter profit more than tripled as sales surged in all the main lines of company business, especially wireless phones. Motorola reported net income of $479 million, or 20 cents per share. That was up from $116 million, or 5 cents a share, in the third quarter a year ago. Sales climbed 26 percent to $8.62 billion from $6.83 billion in the similar 2003 period, though they fell slightly from $8.7 billion in the prior quarter. Shares of Motorola fell to $17.90 in after-market trading on INET from a close of $18.75 on the New York Stock Exchange.
