Emulex Announces Support for the Microsoft Simple SAN Program to Deliver Compatible, Easy-to-Use Solutions for Windows-based SANs

STORAGE NETWORKING WORLD, Orlando, Fla., Oct. 25, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX), the market leader in Fibre Channel host bus adapters (HBAs) and embedded storage switches, announced today its support for the Microsoft Windows Simple SAN Program. This program is designed to ensure that end users deploying Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based SANs have the appropriate tools for a simplified installation and management experience within Windows environments.

Emulex is supporting the Microsoft Windows Simple SAN Program with its Fibre Channel HBAs, including the LP101. The LP101 HBA is designed specifically for small and medium businesses and also features a wizard-like installation and management tool called "AutoPilot" that helps ensure delivery of SAN connectivity solutions that are easy to install, configure and manage.

"Emulex applauds Microsoft's leadership in creating a program to ensure optimum simplicity and functionality of SAN products utilized within Windows-based SANs," said Mike Smith, executive vice president of worldwide marketing, Emulex Corp. "Microsoft and Emulex have a history of working closely to deliver advanced storage functionality to enterprise, midrange and SMB customers."

Emulex's "AutoPilot Installer" utility walks users through the HBA and/or switch installation using a simple, step-by-step automated process, fully eliminating the need for identification of HBA driver revisions, parameter settings and other complex configuration schemes that are required for enterprise-class environments. In addition, Emulex's "AutoPilot Manager" gives SMB users a highly intuitive configuration and management tool tailored specifically for their needs, ensuring an efficient and user-friendly experience.

"Customers want a broad choice of Windows-based storage technologies," said Dr. Claude Lorenson, technical product manager, storage technologies at Microsoft Corp. "Emulex's support for the Microsoft Windows Simple SAN Program is an important step toward bringing easy management of SANs to the masses."

Emulex supports the Microsoft Windows Server 2003 platform, Windows 2000 Server, and Windows NT operating systems, including the Storport driver released with Windows Server 2003. Emulex's Storport miniport HBA was designed from the ground-up to deliver the full range of Storport features, including improved reliability, serviceability and manageability of heterogeneous SAN environments. In addition to Storport, Emulex HBAs also support other innovative storage technologies in the Windows Server 2003 platform including the Microsoft Virtual Disk service (VDS), Volume Shadow Copy service (VSS), and Multipath I/O (MPIO).
