Emulex Debuts 4Gb/s Family Fibre Channel I/O Controllers and HBAs

New Products Provide Driver Compatibility with Prior Generations and Offer Speed Matching for Seamless Integration into 1Gb/s and 2Gb/s SAN Environments

STORAGE NETWORKING WORLD, Orlando, Fla., Oct. 25, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX), the world leader in Fibre Channel host bus adapters (HBAs) and embedded storage switches, today announced its new family of 4Gb/s I/O Controllers (IOCs) and HBAs. The new Emulex 4Gb/s solutions offer industry-leading features and functionality, while maintaining backward compatibility with existing 1Gb/s and 2Gb/s Fibre Channel storage area networks (SANs). The 4Gb/s suite of Emulex products are designed to meet the needs of a broad range of environments ranging from blade servers and other embedded applications to high performance connectivity solutions for enterprise and midrange storage solutions.

Following the recent introduction of its InSpeed SOC 422, the industry's first 4Gb/s embedded storage switch, Emulex is once again validating its commitment to market leadership with the launch of its new Helios I/O Controller and LP11000 family of HBAs. Both the Emulex Helios IOCs and the LP11000 HBAs are designed to operate at 4Gb/s link speeds, and will begin sampling to OEMs this quarter.

"Emulex will follow its tradition of market leadership as the industry migrates to 4Gb/s technology. Our family of 4Gb/s storage infrastructure solutions provides customers with the high quality building blocks that will drive the deployment of next generation storage systems," said Mike Smith, executive vice president of worldwide marketing, Emulex Corp. "We are working closely with our OEM customers to deploy 4Gb/s solutions that eliminate the bottlenecks encountered by increasingly large data storage requirements."

The Emulex Helios IOC features integrated memory and the latest ARM processor, making it an ideal solution for dual channel, high performance embedded connectivity. The Emulex LP11000 HBA family features both single- and dual-channel versions for enterprise and midrange products. The Helios-based LP11000 HBA will be showcased in the Emulex booth (#P3) at the Fall Storage Networking World Conference and Expo, October 25-28, 2004, in Orlando, FL.

The new Emulex 4Gb/s products are the latest generation of the Company's market-leading LightPulse connectivity solutions and are designed to ensure seamless compatibility with previously installed 1Gb/s and 2Gb/s systems. The Emulex 4Gb/s product family offers a firmware-based architecture and driver compatibility across product generations, which provides customers with a simplified upgrade path and reduced management complexities while ensuring a lower total cost of ownership. The Emulex 4Gb/s IOCs and HBAs are supported by a wide range of operating system drivers, including Windows, Solaris, Linux, HP-Unix and Netware, as well as a variety of OEM-developed operating system drivers.
