Microsemi Introduces Two New Flip Chips for EMI and ESD Protection

-- Target Portable Electronics Audio Applications
-- Protect Earpiece Speaker and Microphone Ports

IRVINE, Calif., Oct. 27, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Microsemi Corporation (Nasdaq:MSCC), a leading manufacturer of high performance analog/mixed signal integrated circuits, has announced two new flip chip integrated circuits that filter out electromagnetic interference and protect against electrostatic discharge damage in portable electronic applications.

The proliferation of cell phone and wireless LAN operation increases the need to filter interference from cell phone frequencies of 800-900 MHz as well as WLAN frequencies of 2.4GHz to 6GHz in audio applications that include cell phones, PDA's, MP3 players, notebook computers and digital camcorders.

Designated the LX7205(tm) and LX7206(tm), both of the new flip chips are designed to filter this interference from earpiece speaker ports. The LX7206 also filters microphone ports. Integrated into both devices is bi-directional protection from both positive and negative electrostatic discharge voltages.

"Using 3 x 2 array flip chip construction makes our new EMI filters particularly well suited for portable applications," said Paul Bibeau, Vice President and General Manager of Microsemi's Integrated Products Group. "Their largest dimension is only 1.5 mm long-- and by eliminating leadframes and bond wires we minimize inductance and provide superior high frequency filtering," he said.

Other features of the new flip chips include a transient voltage suppression (TVS) operating voltage of only 5.0V, and low leakage current specifications.

Both the LX7205 and LX7206 are unit priced at $0.31 in 10K quantities, and are available for immediate sampling and volume delivery. Complete technical information is available on the Microsemi web site, www.Microsemi.com. Samples can be requested through this site, from Microsemi sales representatives, or through Microsemi's distribution channel.

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING FACTORS THAT CAN MATERIALLY AFFECT MICROSEMI'S FUTURE RESULTS.

The litigation we have filed should determine the scope and validity of certain of our proprietary rights. Patents held by us may be challenged, invalidated or circumvented. Patents often provide only narrow protection. Also patents expire and are not renewable. Protecting our proprietary rights may require us to defend claims brought by the defendant. Patent lawsuits sometimes are costly, complex proceedings. The litigation in which we have engaged as plaintiff would likely result in an increase in our legal costs. While we are not a defendant in this litigation, we believe that this litigation could consume valuable time and resources of our management and could result in other direct and indirect costs and expenses. Although we expect to prevail, a loss in this litigation could have material adverse consequences.
