After The Bell Market Commentary
On Wednesday, the Commerce Department reported a disappointing decrease of 0.4% in factory orders for the month of September following a 0.3% dip in August. It was the first time for two consecutive months of declines in nearly two years. Economists were expecting an increase of 0.5%. The markets closed higher despite increasing oil prices as investors focused on the re-election of President Bush. The Dow climbed 101 points to 10,137. Nasdaq rose 20 points to 2,004.
