HERNDON, Va., Nov. 9, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) has developed software and e-commerce solutions designed to manage the supply chain and improve transactions for the metals industry.
Northrop Grumman's suite of Web-based OpenTrac(tm) systems helps control the supply chain, and links communication between a business and its trading partners. OpenTrac Director(tm) provides business-to-business transaction communications to and from suppliers and customers. The system tracks material shipments from producers, toll processors, service centers and warehouses to large manufacturing, trading and distribution companies.
OpenTrac Enterprise(tm) and Manager(tm), which are part of Northrop Grumman's suite, are enterprise resource planning systems for toll processors, service centers and producers in the metals industry. They offer transaction management capabilities for processors and service centers, linking them to companies that supply and purchase their materials. The Enterprise system handles complex business scenarios, and Manager provides basic functionalities at a lower cost.

To assist the tracking process, Northrop Grumman worked in collaboration with steel producers, processors and the American Iron and Steel Institute to develop the e-commerce system SteelPartner(tm). SteelPartner(tm) tracks material movement and processing for the steel industry, and links producers and service and distribution centers to their outside processors via the Internet. The system's capabilities include setup of products and processes, tracking material shipments and receipts, inventory reconciliation, quality control, and generating standard reports.
Other key objectives of the steel industry are to reduce costs, exchange data electronically with the supply chain, eliminate manual interface and decrease cycle times. Northrop Grumman offers electronic data interchange (EDI) information partnering and EDI Translation Services(tm) (EDITS) to implement an infrastructure that helps meet the needs of the entire supply chain. EDITS links EDI mapping and communication capabilities to all trading partners for increased exchange of information.
Northrop Grumman also offers Information Partnering(tm) to assist organizations in the metals industry deploy advanced technology in a cost-effective way.
