Tuesday, November 16, 2004 StockPickReport Commentary SILVER AND GOLD
We received this in email today: "Last Friday, November 12. 2004, less than three months after August, silver closed at $7.58. The 30-Day Moving Average was right behind it at $7.22, which represents an extremely strong base. Wake up! The US Dollar is sliding into a pit. You are going to wake up poorer than when you went to sleep. Please take action. Please don't follow the German example after the First World War. Silver is a terrific buy!... Please protect yourself and your money, NOW. Your choice, like it or not, is either: Change your money -- or lose it. Which will it be?"
Now, we love silver and gold as investments, but, this is the sort of hype (the email we received) that gives gold a "bad name". The email was, by the way, sent to us by a BIG "silver bullion" company.
Let's be honest. If you wake up "tomorrow" and the apocalypse has occurred over night, and you're the only guy (or gal) on your block with a "pocket full of gold", your biggest problem isn't the US dollar -- your main concern will be how to protect your gold!
We mentioned last month our belief that gold and silver were good places to diversify, and both gold and silver are up nicely since then. But, if you are buying gold to "ride out" a coming economic meltdown, we suggest you invest in a fallout shelter, not silver coins.
