Virco Earns California Environmental Award for 4th Consecutive Year

TORRANCE, Calif., Nov. 23, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Virco Mfg. Corporation, America's leading manufacturer and supplier of classroom furniture and equipment, has been named a Waste Reduction Awards Program (WRAP) winner by the California Integrated Waste Management Board (CIWMB) for the fourth consecutive year.

Since beginning resource recovery and recycling efforts at its Conway (Arkansas) Division facility in 1989, Virco has received numerous awards from a variety of local, state and national organizations in recognition of its environmental achievements. In fact, Virco was honored by the United States Environmental Protection Agency in 2003 as a charter member of its WasteWise Hall of Fame.

In 2004, Virco's Torrance Division was honored as a WRAP winner for its substantial waste reduction achievements. These efforts enabled Virco Torrance to raise its overall recycling output by 20% during a 12-month period. More specifically, the company also registered a 50% increase in wood recycling output.

Established in 1993 by the CIWMB, the WRAP initiative recognizes companies that have made significant progress in reducing their solid, non-hazardous waste. CIWMB is a division of the State of California's Environmental Protection Agency.
