Check 21 Spurs Interest in Harland Financial Solutions' Image-Based Item Processing Solution

10 More Financial Institutions Now Using CheckQuest(r)

ATLANTA, Nov. 30, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Ten financial institutions have engaged Harland Financial Solutions, Inc. in the last 70 days for its CheckQuest(r) image-based item processing solution. Harland Financial Solutions is a wholly owned subsidiary of John H. Harland Company (NYSE:JH).

The new customers include Dolores State Bank, Dolores, Colorado; Midland Community Bank, Kincaid, Illinois; First State Bank, Picher, Oklahoma; Bank of Wyandotte, Wyandotte, Oklahoma; State Bank & Trust, Kenmare, North Dakota; First National Bank & Trust, Williston, North Dakota; Rake Savings Bank, Rake, Iowa; Frost State Bank, Frost, Minnesota; First National Bank, Milaca, Minnesota; and Citizens State Bank, Waverly, Iowa.

CheckQuest provides financial institutions with a high-performance check imaging and item processing solution that enables them to take full advantage of the efficiencies created by Check 21. Its Credence Assisted Balancing feature improves item processing by applying specialized recognition technology to automate and expedite the balancing process. Harland Financial Solutions acquired CheckQuest, along with the CaptureQuest(r) electronic document management solution, from Poway, California-based Mitek Systems, Inc. in July 2004.

"CheckQuest's courtesy amount recognition / legal amount recognition (CAR/LAR) feature was a strong selling point for us," explained Doug Aiken, executive vice president/cashier, Dolores State Bank in Dolores, Colorado. "We were also very excited about the efficiencies and savings we will receive from CheckQuest, as it will allow us to capture images and quickly forward them to our correspondents for collection, reducing the need for the ever-increasing courier and microfilm costs."

"It is not surprising to see the CheckQuest product performing so well in the market," said Bill Zayas, senior vice president and general manager of Harland Financial Solutions Bank Core Systems Group. "As financial institutions prepare to take advantage of Check 21, CheckQuest will position them for growth through highly competitive, cutting edge technology, backed by the proven stability of Harland."
