Rebuilding Lost Memories -- Author Describes Recreating Memories after Amnesia

BRUSSELS, Belgium, Dec. 1, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- When Robyn Pratt underwent minor surgery, she had a loving husband, two wonderful children and a rewarding personal and professional life. When she awoke, she was shocked to learn an allergic reaction to the anesthetic had erased her memory. Her new book, To Build A Lifetime (now available through AuthorHouse), includes writing she completed while learning about her family and reclaiming her memories.

After her surgery, Pratt's doctors informed her that it could be any matter of time until her memory returned, if it returned at all. Determined not to feel sorry for herself, Pratt began a dedicated effort to learn about the 40 years of life she had lost. She vowed to create new memories of herself and her family as she became reacquainted with her loved ones. Her memories returned after six months, but the lessons she learned will last a lifetime.

Pratt walks readers through her ordeal. She illustrates the power of having a positive attitude and stresses the importance of truly listening to people instead of forming opinions prematurely. Her story is a love story as well as a motivational book that moves people to embrace the possibility that they can make their dreams come true.

"To wake up with no past is an incredible journey to undertake," Pratt writes. "I think that this is what makes this story so special ... that what would have been a disaster to many became a great lesson in life for me and my family."

To Build A Lifetime presents one woman's struggle to overcome the chilling reality of an unthinkable situation and create a new life on a lost foundation.

Born in Australia, Pratt was a successful businesswoman in that country's hospitality industry. She won many professional awards for her work before moving to Brussels in 2000. She currently manages projects for a hotel chain that operates in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Pratt is married with two children and a third child on the way.
