Poetry That Welcomes Hope -- Uplifting Verses in New Book Written for Young Readers

CAMBRIA HEIGHTS, N.Y., Dec. 1, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Bessie Frazier's new collection of poems, The Bright Side (now available through AuthorHouse), sparks an optimistic view about life for young readers while offering them reasons to be hopeful.

"The Bright Side is a book of motivational poetry to help young people deal with peer pressure and the realities of life," Frazier writes. "It is designed to encourage them to think, understand and make better choices and decisions."

From love and dreams to determination and pride, the poems in The Bright Side help those who have felt lost or sad turn their chins to the sun and recognize that each day is a new chance to experience hope. In "Look on the Bright Side," Frazier describes her overall message:

This is to all of the sons/ And daughters on earth,/ Who have questioned/ The reasons about your birth,/ Or wondered about life/ And what it's worth.../ Feel protected and feel safe,/ Look on the bright side./ To everyone born/ Of woman and man,/ They'll always be things/ We'll never understand./ We will have to deal with/ Fallacies and realities./ We can win/ And ward off tragedies,/ Look on the bright side.

With realistic approaches to everyday problems, The Bright Side helps readers put dilemmas into perspective. It is an uplifting experience in poetry that boosts confidence, warms the heart and fuels readers' motivation for life.

Frazier is a middle school teacher in Brooklyn, N.Y. She received bachelor's degrees in English and sociology from Fisk University in Nashville, Tenn., and her master's degree in education from Montclair State College. Frazier is also the author of Exciting Stories and Plays (Vantage), Climb That Barbed Wire Fence (Sterling), and Poems, Short Stories, and Plays For Youth (Exposition). Her poetry has been recited for public schools, churches and colleges in numerous states.
