Roanoke County Awards Northrop Grumman Public Safety Building Contract

Company Will Also Provide E-9-1-1 Emergency Management Centers


HERNDON, Va., Dec. 6, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- The County of Roanoke, Va., has awarded Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) a contract to design and build a new public safety facility and install several upgraded public safety systems designed to improve the county's existing systems as well as increase their efficiency.

As part of the contract, Northrop Grumman's Information Technology (IT) sector will plan and construct an approximately 77,000-square-foot public safety building for the police, fire, and emergency services administration. The building will also house an E-9-1-1 communications center and an emergency operations center, where the county will manage its emergency 9-1-1 dispatch calls, as well as other public safety services.

"Northrop Grumman has long been a leader in building and integrating large command-and-control centers for states and major urban areas such as Chicago and Los Angeles," said Hugh Taylor, president of Northrop Grumman IT's Commercial, State and Local Solutions business unit. "We look forward to taking full advantage of our experience in expediting the construction and systems installation to provide the county with a fully operational, state-of-the-art integrated command-and-control center."

The county's existing public safety radio system prime site will be upgraded and relocated to the new facility. Northrop Grumman will also install a new E-9-1-1 telephone system, a new computer-aided dispatch system with mobile and field reporting capabilities, and a facility-wide local area network and internet protocol-based administrative telephone system.

The contract value is $26 million over 27 months to Northrop Grumman.
