Faith, Hope, and Love

Do you have faith in anything? I don't mean, necessarily, "religion". Just, do you have faith in "anything"?

December 7, 1941 was a day in the history of the world which tested the faith of a generation. The FAITH of the world was placed on the leaders of the Allied forces to defeat the Axis powers.

The HOPE was that the Allied forces could end a series of aggressive military actions by Nazi Germany and Japan.

Any of us who LOVE freedom should take a moment to remember the sacrifice made for us so many years ago. It didn't start with Pearl Harbor, but the attack on that outlying U.S. Naval installation is the moment that the United States woke up to face a dangerous world in need of Faith, Hope, and Love.

How Long Should You Hold a Stock?

We got this in email today:

I bought and am holding SIRI on your "weak buy" recommendation. I got in at 5.99 a share and it has taken off like a rocket, so please tell me is a weak buy given because of its huge run-up and how long can the stochastics stay as high as they are and the stock is still going up?

Great question. The thing about Stochastics, RCI, MACD, or whatever you use to find entry and exit positions in stocks is this: You must use these tools in conjunction with your personal trading goals.

Why did you get into the stock in the first place? If it's because you found a service (like ours) that said there was upside, that's fine. But, what is your FINANCIAL goal with the stock? If you got in at $5.99, and the stock is now at $9.01, you are up $3.02. In our book, that's a 50% move, and that ain't bad.

We cannot tell you what to do with a stock once you buy it. We can only tell you what we think the stock price will do. To that end, before you buy a stock, you must decide ahead of time:

     1. What will you do if the stock goes up? Will you raise
stop/loss targets? Will you sell at a certain point?
Will you simply hold with no strategy? (We don't recommend
        that option.)
     2. What will you do if the stock goes down? Will you sell
at a stop/loss. Will you buy more?

The main thing we hope you get out of this discussion is that you must THINK about WHY you got in a stock in the first place. If you're original goal is answered, well, then, SELL. If you did not have a goal, then MAKE ONE. Ask yourself the $10,000 question, "If I had an additional $10,000 laying around right now, would I put it all in this stock?" The answer to that question should guide your decision on what to do with any stock you hold.
