Engineering Software Solutions Ltd To Market Nalco Energy Service's Software For Heat Exchanger Network Analysis

MANCHESTER, England, Dec. 8, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Engineering Software Solutions announced today that it has entered into an agreement with Nalco Energy Services, a Sugar Land, TX based firm, to market and distribute Nalco Energy Services' MONITOR(tm) heat exchanger network monitoring software.

The MONITOR software is used in oil refineries and chemical plants to track the performance of integrated heat exchanger networks. It combines a user-friendly graphical interface with a unique combination of accurate fluid modeling, rigorous thermodynamic calculations, database management, data reconciliation techniques and automated operation. The MONITOR software also simplifies the analysis of heat exchanger network economics. It optimizes exchanger cleaning by automatically identifying which exchangers in the network will provide the greatest economic benefit when cleaned. In addition, it optimizes flow splits to maximize furnace inlet temperature. All of these features are combined in one easy to use exchanger network model that is specifically designed to get the most out of existing equipment leading to improved operations, energy efficiency and profitability.

"We have been continuously improving the MONITOR software for the last 14 years as part of our comprehensive fouling control and energy management offering for oil refineries and chemical plants," said David Johnson, Nalco Energy Services Business Manager for Downstream Processes. "Our global sales force uses this tool routinely on refinery exchanger networks around the world including crude units, hydrotreaters and fluid catalytic cracking slurry exchangers. Our customers have seen the benefits of this user-friendly program and have been asking for some time to purchase it for their own engineering staff. Now that we have concluded this agreement with ESSCo, any refinery or chemical plant operator can license the software and use it to optimize their operation."

It was ESSCo's long and successful track record in designing, writing, marketing and supporting process engineering and refining software that prompted Nalco to select them for this task. Said Dr. Julian Shaw, ESSCo's Managing Director: "As well as marketing the MONITOR software to refineries, we intend to continue its development. Its sophisticated thermodynamics and its ability to handle multiphase hydrocarbon systems with water and non-condensables such as hydrogen make it ideal for extending its range of applicability into other process areas." He added, "But our primary focus will be on helping our clients reach solutions. Timely engineering and program support is a vital part of that focus."
