Run Through the Jungle -- Author Examines Meaning of Life in Charred Landscape of War

MCLEAN, Va., Dec. 10, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- The horrors and moral complexities of Vietnam come to life in the pages of the gritty new novel, No Survivors (now available through AuthorHouse). Author Mike Sutton treks to the heart of the jungle for a journey on the dark side of the human condition.

No Survivors takes readers deep into the Mekong Delta of South Vietnam with a small advisory team designated for special missions against the enemy. After three tours in this hell, Hunter Morgan is still tenaciously battling the war. The team's medic, Henry Small Deer, is driven by his Sioux warrior heritage to fight, but his expertise as a healer keeps him occupied in the field. The other member of the team, Samantha Crawford, an Army nurse, longs to help but is frustrated by the primitive operating rooms and rural hospitals of their wayward outposts. Together, they battle against the carnage that tears apart the landscape and the soldiers of this brutal war.

As a new mission begins, a naive recruit, Jesse Edwards, joins the team. As the team sets out into the charred country to find the enemy, they have no idea that the enemy has already found them. It will take luck, skill and combat experience to survive the bloody, malevolent destruction of ground assaults and ambushes as well as the spy that lurks among them. As the team claws to stay alive, the men are sent tumbling toward an unthinkable climax that leaves them questioning the very fabric of human existence.

A thick tapestry of vivid detail stitched with Sutton's personal memories, No Survivors offers a pulse-pounding story with realistic drama that examines the nature of war.

Sutton served three tours in Vietnam and was awarded the Combat Infantryman's Badge and the Bronze Star. A life member of the Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), Sutton is contributing 33 percent of the royalties from No Survivors to the VVA and VFW to help house and train homeless veterans. He is currently working on his second book based on his experiences with the Baltimore Bomb Squad.
