STOCK COMMENTARY:

                        Thursday, December 16, 2004
                        StockPickReport Commentary

The market moved rather strangely today. Kind of like it's looking for a reason to drop or rise, but can't figure out which one it wants to choose. The S&P closed (AGAIN) at a multi-year high.

Times like these (moments of seeming market indecision) give us pause to think about our holdings. When the "up and down" is more "sideways", it always (and, I mean ALWAYS) seems to indicate the next move will be sharp one way or another.

And, the number of stocks you hold in any market can become harder to manage in a sharp move up OR down. We think you might want to consider shortening the number of stocks you may hold right now.

Look, you're a trader. Traders need liquidity to trade. You need to be able to get in and get out. It's just logistically harder to follow more than say, 3 stocks at once. We know of a trader that owned 25 positions or more at a time. Guess how much money they lost?

A LOT. They just could not get in and out. If the market turned south they spent all day figuring out which stocks to get out of.

We suggest that liquidity (cash on hand that you can spend) is important, and that if you follow more than 3 stocks at one time (as a trader), you're following too many stocks.

When the market gives you a moment to breathe, we think you're well served to reevaluate every stock you hold.
