StockPickReport Commentary
The S&P 500 is showing some cracks around the edges. After a huge run since the middle of October, it seems like our "overbought" commentary of the past month may come to fruition.
There exists two levels of downside we would watch out for. First, note that the recent trend puts a stop/loss on the S&P at around 1177 now. If the S&P cannot close above that number (which will change as we go forward), there is downside closer to 1100.
We do not believe that the drop to 1100 will come today -- obviously. You should just be aware that there are not that many reasons for the market to rise at this point, and plenty of reasons for a pull back.
Yeah, we know. We've been arguing that point for a month. But, keep in mind that since we've been making the "overbought" case, the S&P's upward momentum has significantly slowed.
With this week of holidays and New Years around the corner, we are not ready to advise entering in to too many "long" positions. We'd allow stocks we own to run up (if they do so), but be absolutely satisfied to conserve capital if the market pulls back.
