WOODLAND HILLS, Calif., Dec. 22, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Employee volunteers of Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) delivered $22,000 in food and gifts to needy families in the San Fernando Valley during December.

"Adopt-A-Family events and contributions raised $7,000 more than last year, so our volunteers can reach out to 47 families, 17 more than last year," said Kathy Fodor, chairman of the Adopt-A-Family committee of the company's Navigation and Space Sensors Division. "We also contributed books and videos during the year for a summer camp sponsored by El Centro de Amistad."
Northrop Grumman employee volunteers wearing Santa suits delivered between $400 and $500 in gifts to the homes of needy families. Recipients are selected by El Centro De Amistad, Inc., a non-profit, social services/United Way agency in Canoga Park, Calif., that supports the needs of low-income residents of the San Fernando Valley.
"Employee participation throughout the year in our events is what makes Adopt-A-Family work," Fodor added. "Employees contribute holiday gifts, make cookies and cakes for bake sales, volunteer for fund-raising activities and help with holiday gift shopping and delivery. They also donate the proceeds from their own fundraising activities or give cash donations to Adopt-A-Family."
Gift distribution night in December is the highlight of Adopt-A-Family activities. Volunteers gathered the food and gifts, loaded them into their vehicles, picked up Santa and his helpers and visited the homes of each recipient to pass the presents out.
A member of the Northrop Grumman Employee's Recreation Club started the Adopt-A-Family gift distribution and visits by Santa in 1990. The club selected four needy families, and employees contributed money to purchase gifts, toys and food and made the deliveries to the families.
