Olixir Technologies Brings Speed and Reliability to Data Backup and Disaster Storage With Launch of Ruggedized Enterprise-Class Hard Drive Storage System

Olixir's FastRestore Enterprise Uses Patented Ruggedized External Hard Disk Drives Enabling Businesses to Rapidly Implement a Cost-Effective, Manageable and Highly Reliable Backup and Disaster Recovery Solution That Completely Eliminates Tape

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 6, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- Olixir Technologies, a provider of technologically advanced ruggedized, portable data storage solutions, today announced the launch of FastRestore Enterprise, the first true 100 percent disk-based enterprise-class backup and disaster recovery solution. Utilizing Olixir's popular ruggedized portable hard drives, which users can rotate and archive offsite instead of tape, the FastRestore Enterprise provides companies of all sizes with a complete scalable, high-performance, reliable storage solution in capacities ranging from 500 GB to 1.2 TB native, and up to 2.4 TB with compression.

FastRestore Enterprise, which uses a Firewire 800/USB 2.0 RAID rack-mounted or desktop enclosure, is populated with four ultra-rugged, removable and hot-swappable Mobile DataVault portable hard drives that are available in native capacities up to 400 GB (800GB compressed). The rugged portable drives are rotated and offsite archived as a set of three or four drives (in a manner similar to tape sets). Proven to withstand non-operational shocks of up to 1,200G, the Mobile DataVault hard drives combine the high-speed, random-access performance of disk drives with the durability and portability of tape cartridges to deliver the industry's first 100 percent direct tape library replacement solution.

FastRestore Enterprise, which supports hardware RAID levels 0 or 5 for high-reliability data storage and recovery, is capable of restoring 250 GB servers in less than two hours and individual files in less than five seconds, compared to hours that many IT administrators face using tape solutions. Data backup speeds are up to 10 times faster than DLT tape drives.

When connected to a server via Firewire 800, the high-performance FastRestore Enterprise provides data transfer rates of up to 100 MB/s bursts and 70 MB/s sustained. FastRestore Enterprise comes complete with Dantz(r) Retrospect(r) Single Server Edition software (expandable to multi-server environments) and is scalable using higher capacity Mobile DataVault portable drives or by daisy-chaining additional FastRestore Enterprise chasses via a second Firewire port.

"The launch of the FastRestore Enterprise system introduces a paradigm shift to an industry that has come to despise the agonizing downtime and reliability issues that often occur with tape," explained Darshan Shah, President of Olixir Technologies. "While D2D RAID solutions are popular for reliable and fast nearline backup, tape has been necessary for disaster recovery since disk drives have historically been too fragile for routine media rotations and offsite archiving. Our ultra-rugged portable hard drives eliminate this weakness. The Olixir solution installs quickly and easily, scales beautifully and delivers fast and significantly more reliable backup and recovery than is possible with tape. Most importantly, this solution dramatically reduces downtime and financial risk."

Mobile DataVault 3DX Product Specifications

The Olixir FastRestore Enterprise uses the Mobile DataVault 3DX Rugged Portable External Hard Drive, the industry's first shock-protected 3.5-inch hard drive. The 7,200 RPM Mobile DataVault 3DX includes 8 MB of cache memory, allowing it to transfer a Gigabyte of data in less than 30 seconds. An easy-to-install data storage solution for any computing platform, the Mobile DataVault 3DX uses an innovative, versatile interface that allows the drive to be used interchangeably with Olixir's USB 2.0, Firewire and SATA cables interfaces, or as a removable drive when plugged into the Mobile DataVault 5.25-inch docking bay or in a rackmount chassis like the RAID enclosure of the FastRestore Enterprise. This capability makes the Mobile DataVault 3DX an ideal tape-replacement solution for media rotation and data security. The Mobile DataVault 3DX supports plug-and-play operation with Macintosh OS 8.6 and higher, Windows 2000/ME/XP, and Linux operating systems.

At a height of 1.40 inches, width of 4.45 inches, and length of 7.5 inches, the Mobile DataVault 3DX is compact enough to fit into the palm of a hand -- making it transportable in any briefcase, safe, cabinet, or other external storage container. Weighing in at a little over a pound, the Mobile DataVault 3DX can easily be moved and integrates a rugged cooling system to improve reliability.

Available in 80 GB, 120 GB, 180 GB, 250 GB, and 400 GB capacities, Olixir's Mobile DataVault 3DX drives are available now through PC Mall and the Olixir Web site.
