Northrop Grumman Wins Army Training and Simulation Contract

HERNDON, Va., Jan. 7, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) has received a follow-on contract from the U.S. Army to provide support for the Tactical Simulation (TACSIM) intelligence training system that trains commanders, intelligence staffs, collection managers and analysts to effectively use intelligence information in military operations.

Northrop Grumman's Information Technology (IT) sector will provide program management, software development and software maintenance, configuration management, system administration and security engineering for the TACSIM system to continually meet emerging military intelligence training needs. Northrop Grumman IT will also conduct research and development to determine new hardware requirements for the training system.

TACSIM is a joint training simulation used by all military services that replicates the U.S. intelligence system. TACSIM is capable of supporting and communicating with several simulation models and is multi-security level, Defense Intelligence Agency accredited. In addition to military intelligence information, TACSIM also incorporates simulated national intelligence assets into the system.

TACSIM has two user options. The system can be operated for intelligence training only, which allows intelligence staffs, sections and units to train their personnel on specific training objectives. It can also be linked to other military simulation training systems to conduct training exercises for intelligence personnel.

The two-year contract is valued at $9.2 million to Northrop Grumman IT. Work on the contract will be done at the TACSIM program office in Orlando, Fla.
