INEEL and View System's Visual First Responder Goes Hollywood

BALTIMORE, Jan. 7, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- He might not be ready for stardom, but INEEL engineer Kevin Young is heading to Hollywood. The television network Lifetime, has begun filming a new television series on first responders. The program pilot will feature Young's Hazmat Cam. The Hazmat camera is marketed by View Systems, Inc. (OTCBB:VYST) and sold as the Visual First Responder.

As an engineer for the U.S. Department of Energy's Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory, Young designed the Hazmat Cam to help real life first responders who are deployed to hot zones, or areas of radiological contamination. The Hazmat Cam is a lightweight wireless video camera system that emergency team members carry to an incident scene. Housed in a tough, waterproof flashlight body, the camera system sends back real-time images to a video or computer monitors at command centers, which can be stationed several miles from the incident area. National Guard Civil Support Teams across the country are using the Hazmat Cam to increase safety and response options to potential threats from chemical, nuclear or biological weapons.

"As the saying goes, 'I'm not quitting my day job,' but it is a lot of fun," said Young. "It's also great that INEEL technologies are getting well known enough to be used in TV programs."

The Lifetime Network approached the INEEL on a recommendation from HAZTEK Inc., a group of homeland defense consultants who specialize in marketing innovative products for national security applications.

The television series, based on the lives of first responder and emergency response teams, was filmed in mid-November in Hollywood, California and is scheduled to air on Lifetime Jan. 16.
