STOCK COMMENTARY Tuesday, January 11, 2005 StockPickReport Commentary Sentiment Change
Today, we have 44 new stocks on our "strong buy" and "strong sell" lists. 40 of them are "strong buy". That shows us an impending character change to the market. It does NOT mean that the market is about to turn higher, necessarily. What it DOES mean is that many stocks have pulled back too sharply versus the market -- and versus themselves.
We would continue to be cautious with all stocks at this point, but we think it could be time to move back in to selected stocks. You know, EVEN if the market were to continue further down at this point, you would be in a much better position now than if you'd been loading up LAST WEEK. Or, really, at any time last month.
We see the market at an interesting spot right now. It's basically traded flat since last week. Stochastics, MACD, and RSI, are moving into "oversold" territory, too.
Like we said last night, we think there is still potential downside, but the downside should be less dramatic from here on out. If you like "hard numbers", look at 1,180 on the S&P as a level the markets need to hold.
